Usually we get money back during tax time, this year we had to pay and use snail mail. What about our stimulus?

Usually we get money back during taxtime, this year we had to pay and use snail mail. How will we recieve our stimulus check via Direct deposit like previous years or via snail mail because that is how we filed since we owed money. Our accountant is never available to find out. And I haven't been able to find anything online to suggest which way it would be. I can't determine when my check will come because I don't know which way it will be coming. Thanks bunches guys!!|||My husband and I filed separately, both of us had to mail ours in this year too. I got money back and chose it to be direct deposited so I get my stimulus payment this friday. My husband had to pay and he paid by check so he doesn't get his until June. So I am pretty sure you will be receiving a check instead of direct deposit.|||I'm not sure if this pertains to your situation or not, but...

The account information used for an incoming direct debit payment to the IRS cannot be used as the account information for the direct deposit of the stimulus payment. People who choose direct debit to pay a balance due will receive their stimulus payments by paper check through the mail.

Tank with female bettas, and mystery snail...What else can go in?

I just recieved a 10 gallon tank, and I am planning on putting at least 3 female bettas in there, along with a golden mystery snail (probably just one so Im not over-run with them), and Im not sure what else. I was thinking a alage-eating type fish like a cory or something else small. Any suggestions?|||Corydoras are not algae eating fish. But a shoal of cories of 3-4 is fine as bottom feeder, who eat uneaten food. NOT dead fish, decaying plants, and rotten food.

As for a algae eater 2 ottos is fine.

("'\(o.o)/"')|||i would do 1 betta and some platies.|||You could do ghost shrimp they are small and clean. They also clean the bottom of your aquarium. I have two along with my algea eater, frog and guppies.!! Not to mention they are like 10cents at wal-mart.

How do you get a career/job? (Preferable salary, with benefits) I fax, and or email and or snail mail and or drop off my resume and or portfolio to ever place I can. I call places. I am in the IL Army National Guard and have a Bachelors Degree. I am willing to relocate. I tried government/civil servant and private companies. Any suggestions or comments please let me know. THANK YOU!|||Please prepare a good resume and post it on job portals for free !

Jobs will pour in !!|||There is something about your resume and/or your approach that is not getting you through the door. You may want to have a professional resume writer look at and reformat your information. Also, if you have access to the career services department at your college, contact them and ask for help, and referrals to companies. They definitely want you to be successful, as you are their product.

Another idea is a career coach. Sometimes it's not what you're doing, but what you should be considering that is the roadblock.

What is the largest land snail someone in North America (Oregon) can own?

I thought the giant African snail would be cool, but they are illegal in the US :( What is the largest someone in Oregon can own? Where can you obtain it/them?|||Basicly go outside and attempt to find one! There are several species of land snails you can find in Oregon, but watch out, chec your DNR on which species you can collect as one might be threatened or endangered. Try this website for more info http://www.northamericanlandsnails.com/

What is a good aquarium snail for me?

I want a small variety of snail that doesn't grow bigger than an inch.

It needs to eat algae on glass and plants.

Its population needs to be easily controlled.

It is not allowed to make much waste as the tank is only a 4 gallon Cherry Shrimp Tank.

Thank you :)

NOTE: Don't say Apple or Mystery snail.

NOTE 2: Nerite snails sounded perfect but I can't find them anywhere in Australia.|||Well if you can't find nerites there's really no other snail you oculd use. Try not leaving the light on for so long if your'e having algae issues.

You woulsn't want apple or mystery snails anyway. 1. Mystery snails ARE apple snails. 2. They have HUGE bioloads and in a 4 gallon tank that's not good. 3. They grow FAR to large for a 4 gallon tank.

I suggest looking on Ebay and seeing if they will ship to you.|||If you can't find Nerites then why not just settle for an Apple or Mystery? They're both nifty little snails.|||none if not apple snails or m s then none|||I don't think you have any more options..sorry.

What should I put in a 5.5 gallon tank with a betta and a snail?

I'm planning on getting a 5.5 gallon tank for my betta sometime soon and adding a little snail with it. Does the snail need anything special? Also what do they eat? Do I need special food?|||A snail and betta will completely stock a 5 gallon tank.

I'm guessing you will be getting a mystery snail but this applies to almost all snails They need to have a PH of 7.0 or higher. They need to have a cuttle bone for calcium and can be fed fresh veggies or algae wafers. I feed my snails hikari algae wafers.

They are very sensitive to copper and other metals.

You need a filter, heater, live or silk style plants, gravel, water conditioner, grow lights if you have live plants...|||Betta and a snail are a good choice for that size tank. Get one of the larger "Apple" snails, they wont breed alone like some of them can.

Snails will eat anything. Left over fish food, algae etc. But if the tank is nice and clean, and the snail is a big one, you might want to get some sinking fish food, or sink some chunks of vege in the tank to give it some more to eat.

Ian|||A 5.5 gallon would be already stocked to the limit with a betta and a snail. So you can't add anything else because it would be overstocked. The snail will feed on algae or left over food.

*EDIT*-Oh ok.Then you need a filter,a heater,Plants.decorations,gravel,and a fish tank hood.Optional-Air pump.

Good luck!|||I would get the standard snail food from pet store, but still ask the emploees they know alot

How do I scrape off snail eggs from my fish tank?

I know I asked the question about were these eggs things my fish tank and where snail eggs but many people told me to scrape them off so I don't get an infestation of them so how do I do it|||An old credit card or an algae scraper works best and wont scratch your tank like a razor blade|||A razor blade works best, but if you don't get every single one out of there, you can expect this to be a never-ending battle. The easiest thing to do, if you have room, is to get a small loach. They will seek out and slurp up any snail and eggs you have,

Would a mystery snail be good to put in a tank with a ten inch plecostomus (possibly over 10 in)?

I believe it's a 20 gallon tank. There is a small clay flowerpot in the tank, so the snail oculd climb on, but will the pleco hurt the snail?|||The pleco will suck the snail from its shell. I know it sounds strange, but I've lost three snails that way before I finally decided what the woman at the pet shop told me was true. Unless you want pretty decorative shells with no snail, I suggest you don't mix the two.|||they would be good tankmates. i have several snails with my bettas.

How do you transition a snail to a new tank with a warmer temp.?

I have a little snail with my goldfish and I want him to be with my betta, but my betta has a warmer tank. Do I just plop him in, or let him float around a while, or what??|||i moved a red ramshorn snail from an unheated tank to a heated tank and i just tossed him in ... he is alive and well with my betta who ignores him ... having a snail in the tank is a good idea and it can be an indicator of poor water quality if the snail dies ... i use a snail in every fry tank i have for this purpose because the fry tanks are only 1 and 2 litres of water ...|||Depends what type of snail it is, and if it can handle that heat. It is different for all snails.

Do NOT just plop him in.

Also, some bettas are known for killing and eating snails, so be careful about that ,and reconsider it.

If you find that it is okay, place your snail in a bag with its original water, and place it into the new tank for a few hours, letting the temperature even out. Then release your snail and check your betta for signs of aggression.

Is this a safe way to make substrate for my mystery snail?

Hi!!

I want to use sand for my mystery snail's home, but the only sand I have is some that is spread out all over the ground outside.

It was from a sandbox a long time ago.

If I scoop some up and clean it, will it be safe to use?

Can I use dirt/mud as a substrate?|||I wouldn't use dirt for an aquatic snail, and the sand from outside won't be safe to use. Just buy gravel from the pet store.|||Not safe, too much chance of contamination, not worth doing.

If this is an aquarium set up, then no you don't want any of those things in the tank.

How to clean snail shells for jewelry?

I collected a handful of empty snail shells the other day and I want to make jewelry out of them. I was told to boil them to kill bacteria, which I did, but they are still pretty dirty on the inside.

They are very tiny, fragile snail shells... I would probably need a needle to pick out excess dirt and tissue. Is there an easy way to loosen the dirt? Any advice?

Thanks in advance!|||soap

Is my snail dead, and how long does it take for a snail body to decompose when they die?

I have a water snail, and I think he might be dead. At first he was fine, we had him for 2 years, and then he just stayed in 1 spot on the glass. It looked like he was sleeping. I thought he was lonely, because he was without a fish for a while. We bought the fish, then he went into his shell and wouldn't come out. His body is still there, but i don't know how long it takes for a body to decompose. How long does it take, and is he dead?|||It is sometimes hard to tell if Apple Snails are dead. If it is in the same place for several days, and part of it is hanging out of its shell, it is probably dead.

Decomposition will depend on your aquarium. If you have fish or other snails, they will probably eat him before he has a chance to decompose. If you do not have fish, it would depend on your water chemistry, but I would think a few weeks at most. - http://www.exoticgoldfish.net/care.html#鈥?/a> -|||Try to poke it with something to see if it responds and is alive. If it just doesn't react or stays still, then it's dead. I don't know how long it takes to decompose though.|||He probably is 2 years is a long time for a snail to live so I would just bury it or something. Sorry.

I ate snail but it was real tiny but then I see another snail like the one you can see in the backyard...not in my mine's but I saw it in someone else's....I was wondering if you eat the snail found in backyards?|||Depends on where you live. Brown snails that are found in California is the same that the french use. YOu need to clean them because there is a possibility that the snail might have eaten poisenous plants. I was told to put them in a pail and feed them spaghettis. http://articles.sfgate.com/2003-05-05/ba鈥?/a>

Can a crawldad or a crab get along with a betta fish and a snail?

Hi can anyone tell me if a crawldad or a crab can get along with a betta fish and a snail? Because my fish and snail are lonely.|||yea id imagine they all kinda control there own part of the tank the betta has the water the snail has the walls and if it gets along with the crab the floor and the crab gets the floor i see no reason why it wouldnt be compatible just keep an eye on it for the first day or two

either way if they dont get along they learn to stay away from whoever is mean so really i dont see how it could go wrong either way unless they litrally are hurting each other|||Well, crawfish could kill and eat your betta, and most crabs are brackish water or need land in there tanks. Maybe 2 african dwarf frogs! You have to feed them frozen bloodworms. I have 3 and they are so cute!

What are the requirements for an apple snail?

I want to know it all... Can I just keep him in a little "Kritter Keeper" or shall I invest in a 5-10 gallon tank? Do I need any special lights or heating?

Also, the snail will be in a room that's dark all through the night, out of my control (it's a school project)--will this bother the activities of the snail, should I get him a little lamp?

What do they eat?

Do I want sand, or those mats (cannot for the life of me remember the name)?|||They can get pretty big. We had to get rid of one from our aquarium.

Could I add a snail and maybe a couple more neon tetras into my tank?

I have a 10 gallon aquarium and i currently have 4 dalmation mollies and 1 neon tetra. In the past, the tank has been very dirty and i go through alot of trouble to clean it. Would a snail help anything? I also was wondering if it would effect the fish (health wise). Thanks.|||Snails are good for Algae on the sides of the tanks. That's it. Otherwise they give off a lot more bad stuff that can harm your water quality. If it's "Very Dirty" it's probably because of your filtration system (or lack of one). Instead of investing in more fish, maybe you should look into a better filter?

The main issue with your tank is the size. It's such a small tank that you'll have to clean it at least once a week. The more fish you add, the more often you need to change the water. I've got a 150 gallon tank and I only have to do a 30-40% water change every month. But when I had my 20 gallon it was a week, week 1/2 between water changes.

As a rule of thumb, you should have 1 inch of fish for every gallon of water. Mollies can get up to a few inches full grown and so you're just about tapped with what you have in there currently. You can add more but expect to be cleaning the tank more often then you do now.|||You're welcome! :D

|||No, the snail won't have a lasting effect on the cleanliness of the tank, neither will it have an affect on the fish.

A 10g unestablished aquarium will become quite messy with mollies considering they can grow up to be around 5" when fully grown. That's why a group of 4-5 should be kept in nothing less than a 30g aquarium.

Neon tetras should never be kept alone, or in groups less than six. They should be kept in aquariums 20g and larger, in groups of 6-8 at the bare minimum. They're too active for small tanks such as yours.

Get one male betta and a group of 4-5 ghost shrimp, as long as it's fully established and cycled.|||your neon tetra must be very lonely because they need groups of six or more. the snail might help though i doubt that one snail would do anything big|||The snail won't drastically change how clean the water/tank is. If you're noticing a big algae problem, is your tank sitting in a window or somewhere that receives a lot of direct sun? That could be one problem. As for whether the dirty water/tank will affect the health of the fish, absolutely!! You might see signs of stress or disease if the tank stays dirty. Tanks require a lot of maintenance to keep clean. That's part of the responsibility of owning one, much like a dog or a cat or any pet. If you're unable to return or rehome all of these fish (try a larger tank? larger tanks are sometimes easier to keep clean because you have more room for error), I would at least try rehoming the neon or returning it to the fish store. They most likely won't give you your money back, but at least you'll know the fish is much happier to be with many of its own kind. Don't try adding more fish to make it happy, as that will just make the waste problem worse. Good luck with your tank!! Hope you can find a good home for the neon and that your mollies stay healthy. :)|||Get a Plecostomus they eat the algea they're cool and easy to care 4 too

What to do about snail eggs in my fish tank?

I'm not sure what type of snail is in my fish tank but it鈥檚 the size of a pinkie fingernail and brown. I think it's laid eggs in my tank, there are kidney shaped clear jelly sacks with little dots inside them and are on the glass of the tank......What do I do with them? Leave them as is? Or Take them out? And do they live in any temperature?|||Most likely a mystery snail. When you do your weekly water changes, just pull the jelly sacks off of the side of the glass and suck them up with your water siphon if you have one. I really recommend getting one.

If not, your tank will have an overload of snails, so it's recommended that you make sure to get rid of them while you can!|||Get rid of the snail %26amp; any snail eggs you can find those snails are a pest %26amp; will multiply like mad. The best way to make sure you don't get more of those snails is when buying live plants from shops or any where is take time %26amp; check out the state of the tank the plants are in are there snails in the tank can you see any visible egg sacks on plants if so best thing to do is walk out %26amp; try another shop. Just to stay safe when you do find plants that look safe when you take your new plants home wash them in some clean fresh water before putting the plants in your tank check for egg sacks stuck to stems, tops %26amp; bottoms of leaves. Once you have washed your new plants then its safe to put in your tank with a very small chance of infesting your tank with pest snails.|||Some times when you buy live plants they can have a couple of snails on them, as they are usually sold in the same tank, or there may be snail eggs on the plants. there is an easy way to get rid of these, you can buy a liquid snail rid from a local aquarist, it's easy to use, and shouldn't cost too much.|||1 snail in a fish tank = 100's of the little beggars!

Get rid of them, but it's not so easy as it seems. I had a bad infestation of these not long ago, and not even regular removal of the egg sacks works. I don't like putting too many chemicals in my tank, you never know how it will affect your fish.

In the end I went for a very natural solution. If you tank is big enough (probably wants to be at least 80 litres or more) get a couple of Clown Loaches. These are really attractive fun fish to keep, and their favourite food is SNAILS. They cleared up the tank in no time, and lacking anymore snails they love eating the same stuff the catfishes in my tank munch on. Check out this website for further info.

Will a golden apple snail eat moss balls?

I am planning to get a golden apple snail to put in my 8gallon with my betta fish.

I'm worried it might eat the moss balls and the Anubia I have in there?|||There are different species, all called golden apple snail in the hobby trade. Some greatly prefer plants over algae. The link below has a species key you can use, but it's not foolproof. You almost have to try one before you can be sure you have identified its species correctly.

These are all large snails since the "apple" in their name refers to the potential size this group of snails is capable of reaching. They will be capable of climbing out of an 8 gallon tank by pushing off the lid long before they reach their maximum size.

Moss balls and Anubias are not attractive plants to most vegetarian fish, but most species of apple snails have a more universal appetite than fish do.

In the very worst case, the apple snail might eat all of your plants, except for any algae, knock the lid off into the tank shorting out the light and electrocuting the fish, then crawl away to find a dark closed in spot to die in, such as inside a shoe or boot. Then when the short causes an electrical fire behind the tank, you grab your shoes to run out of the house, cut your toes on the breaking snail shell in your shoe, and later on have to explain how all this happened to the firemen, hospital, and your parents.

A smaller species of snail makes a lot more sense in this size tank. As someone in the Aquatic Plant Central discussion below says, horned snails are ideal for nano tanks, which includes your 8 gallon tank. Don't let anyone trick you into buying Pomacea glauca which is a striped apple snail masquerading as the "four horned" snail when it does not even have any horns. The last two links picture the difference.|||It really depends on the species. Most Apple Snails will eat plants, but the most commonly sold one the Mystery Snail (Pomacea diffusa) will not bother plants. Try to find which species it is.|||yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss鈥?/div>

Can I keep a snail in my half gallon fish bowl and what would it eat?

I have Freeze dried bloodworms, frog pellets, betta pellets, and fish flakes. Also what type of snail?|||Yah. You could keep it in there. But you couldnt have ANYTHING else in there. And they eat Algae. So pretty much nothing, unless you wanna buy Algae Wafers. (:|||I have one Ramhorn snail. It is about 1 inch. Don't have more because they can take over your take %26amp; even get in the filter. Very hard to get rid of them when you do. This is true with any snail. They prefer to dine on debris. They are great little helper in cleaning your tank. I have included a website that will tell you of the different kinds for your tank. Good luck %26amp; God bless you.|||Yep those little bowls are too small for anything beside small inverts. A snail is perfect though. If you have enough algae growth it should be fine. Otherwise I would suggest algae pellets or small amounts of vegetation.

How can i tell whether or not an aquatic snail is dead?

because of the weather, the water is lowering at a local lake... i found a large aquatic snail on the lake shore... it has its protective covering over the opening of the shell... ..... ..... .... i brought the guy home thinking i'd see it peek out and re fill its water supply, but that has yet to happen. its been sitting in a bowl of water for 4 or 5 hours now, not doing anything. how do i know if its alive?|||While I agree it probably wasn't in the snails best interest to take it from it's natural home, if it has a "trap door" look, where it can totally put its body in the shell and close a "door". If you touch the snail and the door is tightly closed, its alive, if you touch it and the door hangs slightly open it's dead.|||If the water is from the tap and not the lake, then you probably have come close to killing it. You need to dechlorinate the water or the snail will die. You don't know how to take care of this animal so you never should have taken it in the first place.|||ya should have threw it back in the lave if u didn't no how 2 take care of it!!

What will be a good Community snail-eater in a 15 gallon fishtank??

I am getting a new 15 gallon fish tank and I think I will have a probleme with snails. I have a very small tank that I keep my Guppy fry in. I put live plants and there are 5 snail I manage to find them and threw them in the pond. If you have any suggesion, please conssider that I am going to keep it with neon tetras. And no cruel ways please!|||Clown loaches do a great job but get way too big for a 15-gallon, especially since they do best in groups of 5 or more. The Yo Yo Botia also does a great job eating snails, but I'm not sure how big they get. You might try Googling them because I've never seen one longer than a couple of inches so that might be a good choice for you if you can find them in a local fish store.

So as not to overload your tank, your best option might be baiting. Just put a piece of cooked squash, lettuce, or an open green bean in the bottom of your tank and let it sit overnight. When you wake up it should be covered in snails. Remove it and then repeat again for a few nights until the population has dwindled. This won't get rid of every single snail, but ramshorns are actually very helpful in cleaning aquariums and keeping plants alive (if that happens to be the particular snail that you have) so having a handful of them wouldn't hurt.

Also, you should know that actually selling these snails is illegal. I found this out when I bought a puffer and was trying to track snails down because he cleaned out the snail population in his tank so quickly. Some people at PetsMart and PetCo don't know better, but anyone at a LFS told us that they can't sell - or even give these snails - to customers because they populate so quickly that it becomes a threat to our environment when people throw them in ponds. What I'm trying to say is, if you think the snails multiplied quickly in your tank, imagine what that pond will look like in a year. Please find another way to dispose of your snails.

If you can't bear to squish or otherwise kill them yourself, then find a loach to do the job for you. Don't release them into the wild. When the loach gets too big, sell him back to the fish store (local stores will often buy fish off of customers).|||check under the leaves of all plants you add to the 15 gallon for jelly-like egg sacs. rinse, squish and remove. this should prevent the new tank becoming overrun.

if you still find yourself with some snails, just pick and squish is the best way, chemicals will kill the snails, but leave the tank littered with dead bodies which will cause an ammonia spike and harm the fish.

i recommend picking and squishing, that's how I rid my tank of a ramshorn invasion (1 to 400 in a matter of months, 400 to none in a matter for several further months).

there are fish that will eat snails, but loaches are too big and/or too active for a 15 gallon. and puffer fish would shred the guppies to pieces.

there is a new snail on the market, the assassin snail, which is predatory towards other snails. they're not cheap and quite a new import i think, but interesting none the less! i have yet to find proper care instructions for them and have only seen them for sale in 2 independant stores in London.|||never use chemical for killing snails in an aquarium with fish they will still reduce your fish immunity even though they claim to be harmless. A Clown Loach will eat the snails. You might like to try a small bottle (pill or spice bottle very clean) add a small piece of lettuce and place in tank on its side, leave overnight and you should find snails inside the bottle in morning that you can dispose of in a humane way.|||Say hello to my little friend, the algae eater.

If you get one big enough, and the snails are small enough this creature will eat the snails whole!

If you take the guppy fry out, then you could get a salamander or even a crayfish. They would eat those boogers no matter how big!!

That's pretty much the most "humane" way I could think of.

Hope I helped you in some way.

Best regards,

billcollins531|||I'm not sure about snail-eaters but I've had this problem before. I took the gravel and plants out of my tank - I threw away the gravel and got some new and I washed the plants with hot water. Those are pesky little snails that usually come from the petstore.|||I don't think anything will officially eat all of the snails.

But there is a liquid formula that you can put in the tank that will destroy the snails, and not harm the fish.

I have an aquarium with about 15 fish, a snail, four frogs. How often should I change the filter cartridge?

My aquarium is a 20-gallon. Among the fish are two catfish. Do you think one snail is enough? The pet store owner (the husband of a close friend) told me to change the filter monthly. Is there any condition under which it should be changed more frequently?|||What kind of filter is it and what kind of fish do you have?

I never change my filter media I just rinse it in tank water once a month. It's best to do it when you are doing your weekly water change. When you toss out the filter media you are also getting rid of alot of good bacteria|||If the water is getting green, then change it more frequently. Otherwise, no. It will be good ;-)|||Hi s.,

Fifteen fish and four frogs in a 20-gallon tank is pretty full unless the fish are smallish tetras. I'd recommend doing partial water changes of 25 percent each week and using the tank's water to clean the filter's cartridge(s). My filter's output slows in a week and so I clean the cartridges weekly or bi-monthly. It won't hurt to clean the cartridges frequently as long as you use the aquarium's water.

I change the filter's cartridges only when they are well used and have broken down to where the filtering efficiency is compromised. And when you change cartridges (if there's more than one) only replace one at a time, with a couple of weeks interval minimum, or you'll be eliminating a high percentage of the biofilter, which can cause potentially harmful ammonia or nitrite spikes.

Regards,

David|||if you over feed and there are lots of unwanted things in the tank, one time we bought a fish that had a rock in the bag, turned out that it was covered with snail eggs, we didnt change the water and filter and in 1 week we had 15 snails eating everything

Is my yellow snail eating my blue snail?

I have one snail that's blue/purple, and a dark bright snail. I noticed that since the yellow snail been crawling on the blue snail, the blue snail has gotten smaller (I took the yellow snail out and put him in another tank). What is going on?|||Are these just different colors of mystery snails?

One climbing on the other usually has two causes - one is eating algae from another snail's shell, or they're mating. Mystery snails have separate genders.

You should be able to tell if there's any body damage if your blue snail is out crawling around.

How to feed my black mystery snail?

I have a 3gal. tank with 2 sunset coral platies, 1 white cloud minnow, a cory catfish and a black mystery snail. The snail (Torro) seems quite happy running along the substrate and picking stuff up, but I've heard that you can feed him vegetables. I've tried sinking blanched lettuce and peas and corn but he never eats any of it. Any suggestions? Or will he be alright? I also have sinking pellets for the catfish. but I'm sure he eats those too.

Thanks!|||You can also try sinking algae wafers. If it's by passing the blanched veggies, chances are Torro is getting plenty to eat just grazing around.

On a side note: assuming the fish are all juviniles...... as those fish and snail grow, that 3 gal is going to get pretty crowded.

Would a zebra snail help eliminate some of the algae in my tank?

I have a 60litre aquarium which has a bit of a algae problem. Would a snail help eliminate some of the algae? i cant really add anymore fish as i already have one sailfin molly, 1 pearl gourami, and 3 red eye tetra, so its already a little overstocked.|||Your tank is a bit overstocked, and your schools are understocked :(. This makes a tank very sad :/.

I suggest returning the pearl gourami, adding at least 2 to give you a trio of mollies, and add at least 2-3 tetra to make them a school.

Mollies aren't really schooling fish, but they do feel safer in numbers. Adding to make them a trio is a wonderful idea. It'd make your current molly much more comfortable.

If a schooling fish is not being kept in a proper sized school, especially tetra, they are likely to become uncomfortable and stressed... Which will eventually bring out unwanted behavior like fin nipping, or illness. A school should be 5-6+.

Also, no matter what fish you add to eat algae, the only REAL way to take care of an algae problem is YOU. You should be doing a 25% water change once a week with a gravel vac. You should be cleaning the filter once a month. And if algae ever decides to build up really thick on the glass, you must get a scrapper to clean it off.

Even with algae eating fish, the job they do is very minimal compared to what you can do.|||Think you need to boil some, or fry some, to make some room in your tank. I'm sure they would rather be battered and served with chips than live in a cramped tank. Think of their feelings.|||yeah that would work out

How can i own a giant african land snail in the us leggale?

I whant a giant african land snail but some 1 told me there elgale in the us is there enghy way i can own 1n the us whith out it being aganst the law?|||I'm sorry but there is no way that you can legally own any of the Giant African Land Snail's in the States. While they are amazing snail they are extremely dangerous, and to more than just the 500+ species of plants that they like to devour at a rapid pace. They are so voracious that they often dominate native snail species and kill them off, and breed so rapidly that they can do massive damage to non native environments.

Along with this they carry the rat parasite. This is contracted from simply touching the snails in some cases, or handling them and then getting their mucus into an orifice like your eyes (don't rub your face!). Of course they can also be carrying a few other nasties for you. Luckily none as of yet in the USA have been discovered with diseases.

To cut a long story short the splendid Achatina achatina is not a pet you can keep in the USA, though APHIS (US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) loves to pick them up if you find them, you can contact them at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/npb/npbmemb.ht鈥?/a> without fear of any fine or penalty.

Why do I have a snail invasion in my fish tank?

About a month or so ago, I bought a few plants for my fish tank. The salesperson offered me a snail too, so I was all, "Meh, sure." At first there was just a few tiny snail, but now its like an invasion. And it seems theres now an albino subspecies forming. Is this thing asexual or something? How does it keep spitting them out?? And subspecies?!! Any thoughts?|||I have this "Snail Rid" by White Crane Co. and the label says it kills all kinds of snails without harming most plants and fish.

Dosage : 1 drop per 2litre of water

Active ingredient is Copper element

Precaution : Toxic if water is soft or has low KH. Add KH_UP to increase KH value to 5 drops before treatment.

Caution : Harmful to Vallisneria and Elodea

I've been using it for some time and it seems to work quite effectively. Good luck!|||Generally, they come in on plants ... they can foul your tank far beyond any good that they do. They die and rot in their shells, contaminating the water. There are additives you can get to kill them but be very careful. I'd put the fish in a quarantine tank, completely clean out the main tank and start over...|||Snails are asexual and when they have babies they have hundreds. You need to clean the majority out. They will quickly poison the tank and kill the fish.|||Buy some puffer fish. They are known to kill (Eats) Snails. Buy those drawf type, as I know some are not as effective. Be careful with them as they eat meat. after killing the snails, they may bite you other fishes.|||If you want to get rid of them, buy a fish named Botia (or Bothia) which eat snails by sucking them out of their shells.|||Buy a clown loach, these are known to eat snails. Becareful though, they liek to play dead. My friend had one and it began playing dead the next day. she scooped it out and put it in the toilet and only then did it begin to move!|||because snails are extreamly prolific breeders.if you got one , it will turn into hundreds.to cure the problem, put a small goldfish in the tank.it will eventually eat all of them.

Can I leave my hermit crab and turbo snail in an uncycled aquarium?

I have an uncycled 4 week old aquarium. I started out with a yellow-tailed blue damselfish and its still alive. I just put my turbo snail and hermit crab inside, should I leave them inside or not?|||Yes, they will be fine, as long as you acclimated them properly.|||The hermit crabs might be ok but marine snails are very sensitive.

WHY WOULD YOU BUT ANYTHING IN AN UNCYCLED AQUARIUM EXPECIALLY EXPENCIVE MARINE ANIMALS.

Can a slug eventually grow to be a snail?

How do you determin the age of a common home aquarium snail??

We recantly baught a new aquarium with a snail the size of a golf ball and we are wondering how old it is aproximatly??The snail that is, Not the aquarium! we now it is new??lolThanks all|||Sounds like your snail is 2-3 years old. If i were you i wouldnt keep it, because i have had many bad experiences with snails. Whenever a breeding pair is found (and it will eventually happen because when you buy fish snails sometimes come along for the ride) THEY REPRODUCE LIKE CRAZY.

Anyway ill just add my 2 cents by saying what fish do you have, if your new tank is around 10 gallons try putting in some bamboo or some small tetras. If its a 30 gallon try getting some large saltwater rocks and make a cool design. If its a 100 gallon well BUY FLOWER HORNS|||sumthing to do w/ the spiral on its shell|||about a yearor two.

the longest ive kept one is 6 years. it was 1mm when i got it.

How to control/remove Snail problem in the freshwater aquarium, naturally?

I have 3ft x 1.5ft tank with 20 guppys and 10 neon tetra's. Every week, I hv to manually removed the snail's but it keep coming back with more.

How can I remove completely , although I read through most of the website mentioned ONLY able to reduce snail population.

ps: I tried have clown fish but end up eating my guppy.|||I've read on forums where people have made traps for the snails out of pop bottles. Here is a link to one of them:

http://www.tetracare.com/forums/showthre鈥?/a>|||you could try adding a yoyo loach per 10 gallons, or add aquarium salt from the fish store or puffers|||I recomend Zebra Loaches. These little guys need to be in schools of 5 or so, but they will exterminate most types of snails in record time.

Also ANY Botia family loach will each snails so you have options.|||Take the water, the filter, and the fish and put them in another tank. Then take apart yours, clean it out and completely dry it out.|||any loach dojo, yoyo, zebra, khuli etc..|||Hard to remove all but if you see the egg sack on side of take it out generally about three centermeter's long and clear jelly like also remove as thoughly as possible for a week and you will have a lot less

How do you indicate in an e-mail that an attachment will be snail mailed as well?

At the bottom of an e-mail, it is common to include a few initials indicating whether something was dictated, or an attachment is included. What is the fully proper way to indicate that an attached [letter] will be coming via snail mail as well?|||CC; Via US Postal service Regular mail.|||I wouldn't call it "attached" in the first place if it is not attached. I would just write a sentence saying a letter will be sent via US Post. No need to be cryptic with letter codes....

Edit: Ah, ok. then it really is a CC as the answer suggested below. The answer below is not too bad. It is clear and not cryptic.

How would I go about finding a snail mail pen friend?

How long can this snail get out of the well?

Ok. My dad asked me this question. I just want to share it to you. It's easy, I promise.

A snail on a well 12m depth wants to get out. He can climb 2m at night and slipped 1m by daytime due to the heat of the sun.

How can i stop my golden apple snail floating?

i've got a lovely great big golden apple snail but i think he must have some air in his shell. Several times a day he lets go of the side and just floats. If i pick him up and turn him over, he curls up in his shell, thus pushing the air back inside him so I can never get it out.|||Haha, they always do that. If you think something is seriously wrong, ask a vet or petstore.|||put a rock on top of him......|||Try flicking it before you put it back...|||Mine did the same and I put it down to 'instinct in the wild' as once the snail feels all the food source has gone they fill themselves with air to be carried on the current before releasing the air and sinking to start looking for food all over again!

Don't worry I am sure it is normal..

:-)|||He is fine don't worry about it. It is prefectly normal. Just leave him floating when he gets close to the side he will adhere to it if he wants.

Good Luck

What are my rights in a spam snail mail situation?

This will be the 3rd time I've warned a company to stop sending me solicitation via snail mail to my mailing address. I'm trying to craft a final warning to this company to get their attention and finally delete my address from their database. What are my rights and who can I contact if I pursue to sue and how would I word this in a professional matter?|||It is a piece of mail. If it upsets you, throw it away without opening it. What would make you think you have to get it stopped? Chuck it in the trash. When they get no response after a certain amount of time, they will quit sending stuff.

I'm not really aware of any law that prevents mailing solicitations to anyone. I don't think you can claim that you have had harm done to you if a piece of mail meeting postal regulations shows up in your mail box.

I think there is some underlying personal problem or phobia you haven't told us about here.

`|||You are going about this the wrong way. To succeed you need to make this contractual, and that is specific in its construction.

The depth of your question exceeds this forum

Do ivy league schools send out snail mail to everyone, whether or not it is requested?

By snail mail I mean letters and brochures to get a small look at what the college is like.|||No, they tend to only send it to people with a decent chance of getting in (average or even a bit below average based on their scores). It doesn't mean you can get in, but you might have a 5% chance or maybe a bit better. The more people who apply, the more money they get in application costs, and the more applicants they can turn down, which increases their ratings.

Can I put my baby pond snail in my fish tank?

I have 6 assorted tetras, 1 algae eater, 2 redtail mollies, and 2 guppies, My pond snail is little would it be safe to put it in the tank? Will they eat it?|||Tetras are not aggressive... I beilieve they had tetras confused with barbs. I have 8 different varieties of them living in on tank with many variety of snails in it. I also have a gold fish, 5 different kinds gouromis, some zebra danios and leopard danios. And then I have a algea eater. No matter how big your snails are your fish won't eat it unless you have a loach or a puffer fish or a crab then your snail will be fine.|||yes the fish will eat the snail. tetras can be very aggressive .|||I know for a fact that when snail of any kind get to close to my pond the Koi just suck them right out of their shell. I would not recomend doing it if you have large fish like I do. I have never had problems with tetras, alge eaters, mollies or guppies. Just make sure you dont over crownd them and they should leave eachother alone. If the snail is smaller than ANY of the other fish. You may want to waite until he/she getts bigger.

Snail got stuck on my dog for a minute or less?

I just let my puppy out and before we went back in there was a snail that caught onto him. I shook it off. My dog sleeps with me. Would it be unhealthy to allow him to sleep on my bed tonight? It's too late to give him a shower.|||go ahead and use a damp cloth with some mild soap and wash the area. then wipe him down all over with it. he should be fine to sleep with you. and since he was out side, who really knows what else has gone on. you are only worried because you caught it. ^.^ who knows what kinda bugs the fellow was rolling on other days.|||Your fine!!|||L'escargot with garlic butter...good stuff.|||Snail goo is harmless; if it was the least bit dangerous I would've died a long time a go.|||your fine..... people eat snails..... they get stuck to my dogs all the time.... they get really scared but that is the worst part....|||There shouldn't ba a problem with sleeping with him.But I would take him to the vet just to be on the safe side.Hope everything goes great!!|||no worries.|||it's just a little snail slime, it's really not a big deal. it won't hurt to bring him to bed with you. if it bothers you, just use a baby wipe on him or something.|||Why would it be unhealthy? Your dog probaby would've eaten it if it hadn't got stuck on his fur. Wipe the slime off and let him in the bed with you.|||Lol, the snail isn't of any harm. You'll be fine. My guy brought a ladybug in bed the other night, and we both watched it go when I dropped it out the window n_n

One mystery gold snail just died, how should I clean the tank to keep the other creatures from dying?

It's a 5 gallon and there's a betta fish, 2 african dwarf frogs and one snail. The snail that died was dead for a couple of hours.|||This is going to sound odd, but unless you had something really, really nasty, like the untreatable flesh-eating fin rot that kills fish within 2 days then there's not much to do. Anything that made them sick (aside from maybe that really awful flesh-eating stuff) is in the water all the time: parasites, bacteria, etc.-anything that could make them sick is always in there even when your water params are great and you've just done water changes. However, it's only when the fish is stressed, old or otherwise susceptible that these constant companions will successfully get your fish sick. So, take out the snail and treat the tank with the other inhabitants if they're showing signs of illness, and if not, do a normal water change, clean 1/4 of the gravel (based on tank size) and enjoy your frogs.|||well you could go the easy way and just take the dead snail out and dispose of it, which i did. but you could also "evacuate" your other living creatures and put them in a bowl or something so you can clean your tank, like how you normally do. but definitely DO NOT leave the dead snail in there, that creates more bacteria, increasing your chances of your creatures becoming sick. hope this helped, and good luck(:|||Remove dead snail and do a large part water change and gravel vac. Cleaning any more than that is likely to cause more problems.

What do you think of e-cards for Christmas instead of snail mail cards?

We send about 150 snail mail cards every year. Probably 100+ of the people to whom we send cards have email addresses. We could instead send very nice e-cards to them - perhaps this year we'll do both, then cut over to e-cards only next year. How would you feel about receiving Christmas e-cards only?|||About the same as I feel about every other email, its ok for things like a quick question, or an order, or something you don't want or need to keep. It would be OK to receive a greeting from a business or a not-very-close acquaintance. But its not what I would want for my birthday or Valentines day or Christmas. I may be, in fact I know I am sentimental, I keep a box of my favorite cards, the first ones in crayon from my kids and grandkids, the ones my husband sent, the friends who are now gone, are all remembered again each time I open that box and add another one. You can't do that with an email.

My husband asked me once why I kept them and I said its because I can't throw something away with love in it.

Email the unimportant people if you must, but do sent cards to the ones who mean something to you. You never know if they have a memory box under their beds too.|||Nothing can take the place of a card that you can pick up and show family and friends and look at as many times as you want to - keep em going!

|||Some of my friends send e-cards and I personally prefer to receive an actual mailed card. I always mail birthday, Christmas, engagement, etc. cards to people and I love to receive a pretty card in the mail with wishes from my friends. An e-card just doesn't do it for me for some reason, maybe I'm old fashioned though. Plus, I like to save my Christmas/Birthday/ etc. cards in a basket to look at later, like my mother did. It's nice to look through the basket each year and remember old friends and new ones. An e-card always seems like a "last minute" thought to me, rather than something that the person really planned out to be special.|||I would much rather receive a "real live" Christmas card in the mail. It's much more personal and really makes the recipient feel special that you took the time to send it to them. E-cards are very impersonal and perhaps a little tacky. If your budget cannot handle sending cards in the mail, then by all means send the e-card-- it's better than nothing, but don't take the short cut if you don't have to. Get out the address book, sign the card and put a stamp on it. :)|||there's just something speical about getting an acutal card in the mail. i don't know what it is but it's just is special. i hang them up for christmas time like my parents did. but if u want to do the e-card thing why don't u send the ppl an email first and see if they would mind (blame it on hihg stamp prices!) if they think it's okay then fine but if they prefer regular do that.|||I like receiving the regular cards because I hang them up. I get to enjoy them throughout Christmas and you can't do that with e-cards. |||I send regular cards. It shows that you put forth a little effort, and they look nice hung out on display

How do you take a snail out of a shell without killing it?

My brother and I found a sea snail at the beach and we don't want to kill it... I tried searching how to, but I couldn't find anything. Help?|||Hermit crabs find their homes on the ocean floor and can find new condos, simply from going to the new neighborhood by leaving the old abode and finding a new. However ,some are attached to the homes they are born to carry along and the homes usually grow along with them...if it is a snail...don't snatch him from his home as he will surely die! Pup|||You can't. Snails aren't like hermit crabs, their shell is like a turtle's shell and is attatched to the snail's body.

Also, if you found it at the beach, put it back. That's where it lives and I think it wants to keep living there. :)|||So you're trying to harvest the shell? If you take it out, i'm pretty certain it will die. It's not a hermit crab that can change its shell as it outgrows it.|||100% IMPOSSIBLE.

It WILL die w/out the shell!

I have a snail that is just floating on the surface, Is there something wrong with it?

I am new to snails. I have a 50 gal aquarium that I have had for quite a while. All water levels are ok and the fish are doing fine. I bought the snail about 3 days ago and it sat on the bottom until today when it started floating around. I don't think it is dead because it doesn't smell bad but I wonder if it can attach to anything since it is floating.|||You are really lucky that it hasn't started to stink yet. Get it out of your tank before it does, because it is quite dead.|||I had snails and yeah, it's probably dead. they don't last long.|||sounds like its dead to me|||Can you see if the snail still has it's foot? I have a really bratty Dojo that loves playing snail-ball. if the snail has it's foot put it against the wall of the aquarium and see if it latches on. If it doesn't latch then drop it in the waste bin and try again.|||I had a snail for years and it used to do that all the time.It actually seemed to enjoy floating around the tank.Take it out of the water and place it in a plastic container for a few minutes along with a bit of water and a piece of lettuce and see if it comes out to eat. Also, snails REALLY smell bad when they are dead!|||Yeah, snails just float sometimes. I really couldn't tell you why. My apple snail does this every so often. There won't be any doubt if your snail is dead. You can test to make sure by taking him out of the water and holding him upside down for a second. If his body falls out, he's dead, otherwise his foot will still be acting as a 'latch'.

I don't think he would be floating with his body still inside the shell if he was dead anyway.|||NO THE SNAIL IS NOT DEAD! it has an air bubble in the shell, my snails get it all the time. Should take up to a day to get rid of... Sometimes alittle long. PLEASE DONT GET RID OF YOUR SNAIL. The only way to tell your snail is truely dead is if the trapped door is not closing, or if it hangs out of the shell not moving at all even when you pick it up.

How to sell snail eggs as food?

I have a few brown garden snails (Helix aspersa) which are edible. They lay many eggs and since I don't want anymore I just crush the things before they develop. I was wondering, since they are being destroyed anyway, if there was a way I could maybe package and sell them to a distributor or something. I know they have snail farms with these little guys, but I couldn't let the eggs hatch and then kill the little guys to be sold to be eaten, just don't have the heart to do that. Who buys the eggs?|||I don't think they're sold as people food, but as food for various fish and amphibians. If you have a tropical fish store in your area, ask them if they'd like to buy some from you. Kribs, loaches, puffers and lots of others like snail eggs.

Can i keep an apple snail in a cold water tank with goldfish?

i have a 10 litre coldwater aquarium in my bedroom and just wondered if i could keep and apple snail in it with a couple of goldfish.|||you should get 2 apple snails. i have two goldfish and 2 apple snails in my tank and they're fine. just make sure you feed the goldfish cause once in a while they like to pick on the snails.

oh and if u have a 10 litre tank, you need a bigger one. i made a huge mistake doing the same thing. i bought 2 tiny goldfish and expected them to stay the same size forever. they grew. aloottt. i ended up getting a bigger tank. but my advise overal is DO NOT GET A GOLDFISH. seriously they are sooo messy you should only get one for an outdoor pond or such. after about the first month of having mine, i regretted not buying guppies.

i would've appreciated it if someone gave me the same advice before i bought my goldfish|||i made that mistake i have a 10 gallon tank with 2 fantails and a black moore and they ate my poor snail i wouldnt do that oh and plus you need a bigger tank|||No. Goldfish would eat the snail.

Also Goldfish need more like 65-100 litres each, a 10 litre is way too small, a Goldfish would not last very long in a tank that small!|||they may be ok if the snail is quite big because i do agree the goldfish could eat it if it's small|||you need a bigger tank bt they will go good together

Is it safe and hygenic to touch a common garden snail?

I'm planning a game where the participants have to stick their hands into a box and by touching the object inside guess correctly what it is. Just making sure if it is safe to make physical contact

with the "wet parts" of the snail.

thanks!|||Yeah, but just incase wash your hands afterwards...|||Sure you can, as long as you wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. They're just a kind of mollusc - related to those that live in the sea - but because they come in to contact with soil that has a lot of crap in it (dog doo, nitrogen, phosphate, etc) you can make yourself sick if you kiss one. You can also eat them, as long as you soak them, but I can't remember what you're supposed to soak them in so that you don't get sick.|||no

What does it mean when there are little white bumps on your snail?

I just got a snail and there is little white bumps on it. I was wondering if it is an infection and if it is, and it contagious to other snails? I have a land snail and I currently have 2 adult snails and about 13 babies...|||It's a fungus|||The little white bumps could be more babies that are just crawling on their parents like a jungle-gym. Are the bumps moving at all? What does their texture look like? How big are they?

How many days will it take for Sally's snail to get to the top of the well?

Sally has a pet snail that fell into a well. The well is 16 feet deep. Each day, the snail climbs up 5 feet, but each night, it slides back down 4 feet. How many days will it take for Sally's snail to get to the top of the well?|||The net speed per 24 hours is 5 - 4 = 1 foot.

1 ft / 24 hrs = 16 ft / x hrs

16 * 24 hrs = 16 days (384 hrs)|||12 days.

Per day and night, it makes a net progress of 1 foot. After 11 days and nights, it will have made 11 feet progress. On day 12, it will make another 5 feet, meaning it has climbed 11+5 = 16 feet, so it will be out of the well.

What fish can live in a 10 gallon with a snail and betta?

I have a heated and filtered 10 gallon tank, with a male betta fish and a snail. What other fish can I ad without it being overcrowded?|||Bettas should never be kept with other bettas (although I've done it once or twice...) and they are compatible with the Bala Shark, Corydoras Catfish, Glass Catfish, GloFish, Molly, Pearl Gourami, Platy, Rainbow Shark, Red Tailed Shark, Swordtail, Three Spot Gourami, Upsidedown Catfish, and the Zebra Danio. I have also kept bettas with guppies, green spotted puffers, and figure-8 puffers, but those are unlikely pairs due to the fact that the puffers nip at tail fins, and the guppies might upset the bettas.|||another female/male bettas since the bettas hates other species acept snails, pleco, algae eater, cory cat, and thats all but if you get a female/male with your female/male betta and they mate it will be hard to care for babies|||Pygmy corydoras, kuhli loaches, platys are all generally ok with the betta and a 10 gallon tank. How to feed a snail once fish are all dead?

I bought a little snail for my fishtank because they are known to clean the moss off the glass walls. But all my fish are now dead so I wonder how to feed it if there's no fish poo/moss etc to eat? Do I keep sprinkling fish flakes in there? Thanks|||Algae wafers spinach, green beans, peas and lettuce|||boiled vegetables|||I once had to move my snail out of the tank because I was treating the tank for an illness. I gave him flakes because I didn't have any algae wafers and he was fine. He did poop a lot though...

He'd probably do better with algae wafers but I'm sure fish flakes will work fine. :)|||their purpose is to eat algae right?

then just let them be. they'll be eating up and making your tank cleaner.

if you want to feed them, just drop in blanched vegetable, like spinach.

they'll love it.

but remember as snails are bottom feeders, they don't need to be fed everyday.

twice or thrice a week is okay|||Algea wafers you can pick up at a local pet store...... fish flakes are fine

What kind of snail?

Mystery snail?

How can i tell if my mystery snail is a male or female ?

I want to know how to tell if my snail is boy or girl i want to have baby snails.|||Unlike many other kinds of snails, mystery or apple snails do have genders and you need a male and a female to have baby snails. The link posted by Matt will show you how to tell the gender of your snail.

Keep in mind that mystery snails lay their eggs above water so make sure you keep your water level low enough that your female snail, when the time comes, is able to get out of the water high enough to deposit her clutch of eggs. Usually they lay them on the inside of the hood or on the glass above the water line.|||Snails don't have a sex. Some are asexual (have babies magically with themselves) and some need another snail. All you need is to get another one, they just have sex with everything. The tiny snails you find in your plants and freak about are the same as an apple (mystery) snail. They reproduce like rabbits.|||The site in the sources will show you what to look for. :)

How do I send snail mail from Salesforce?

Where can I buy a small cleaner snail?

Where can I buy a small cleaner snail for my newt's 10 gallon tank, and what cleaner snails can live safely with newts? I've looked at my local pet store, but they didn't have any.|||Snails are excellent aquatic pets. The only thing is to realize that they aren't just janitors; you'll have to offer them their own diet to keep them healthy.

There are all sorts of snails but you also have to consider where you live. Many people refer to Pomacea Canaliculata snails as "apple snails". "Apple" snails is just a general term that covers a wide range of snails. These are the type that get to be the size of a small apple or a baseball. They will eat any live plant material, though. These snails are illegal to transport across state lines and in some states in the US, are illegal to own.

Pomacea brigs. snails are commonly tagged "mystery" snails, which is also a very broad term. These are plant safe and get to be the size of about a walnut. They are not illegal to transport, etc. in the US but shipping requires a permit so buy from a reputable breeder. These come in a wide array of colors from gold, blue, ivory, pink, purple, blue, jade and various striped varieties.

Other snails include marisa snails, which are really cool large ramshorn shaped snails. They can be hard to find legally though, as with canas.

Malaysian trumpet snails are great tiny snails that keep substrate stirred in the tank and are plant safe and completely legal.

There are many types of snails, these are just the most common. You can find them in many pet stores, or ask the pet store to order them. Otherwise, you can check www.aquabid.com in the snail section for breeders who will ship or www.applesnail.net has a forum with people who list snails for sale as well.

Snails ship very well so don't be too concerned about that part of it. :)

Any snail that is too big to fit into the newts mouth should be safe as long as the newt isn't too overly aggressive. Larger brigs, canas and marisa might work best for your situation, depending on where you live.

How can u find out if a snail is alive or dead in my samll aquarium?

i have a samll bowl which has some 3 paitrs of barb fishes and a snail. i ceaned the tank only couple of days back but yesterday i noticed the snail was floating in the water.any help|||this is gross but you have to smell it. if it smells fishy it is dead.

it might jjust be floating for the sake of floating. put it near a leaf or the side of the tank and see if it will grab on.

3 pairs of barbs in a bowl? they will all die. the need a larger TANK with filtration.|||If the snail is floating it is most likely dead. All you really can do is push it back to the ground and see if it moves after a while, not much else you can do.|||pleas check out this fish forum. its new sign up!

Source(s):

http://fwfanatics.proboards80.com/index.鈥?/a>|||smash the shell and see if its dead|||If its soft insides are out of its shell and it's not going back in when you touch it, its probably dead. Also, if it smells gross or gives off a bad smelling liquid, it also may be dead. Just watch where it is located in the tank and see if it is in the same place the next day.

And by the way, your tank is so over stocked I can not even ponder how you can expect your fish to live. Barbs need way larger tanks, at least 1 gallon per inch of fish. No fish besides bettas anyway can live in an unfiltered environment with only surface air available. I would not be surprised if they all died in their own, unfiltered filth.

How long before a Clippers home game should I expect to receive my tickets via snail-mail?

I purchased Clippers tickets for the April 14, 2010 home game through ticketmaster. I chose the snail-mail option because it was free and it was January. The confirmation email said they would email when they were ready to mail them out, but now it's two weeks before the game, and I'm not sure if it's normal to not have my tickets in hand already. Someone please tell me I'm not out several hundred bucks. I didn't buy ticket insurance.|||Similar situation happened with me where I purchased tickets through ticketmaster... they sent me my tickets via snail-mail and finally received them (in a package) a few days before the event.

Is it okay to feed two guppies and a snail goldfish food?

I just got a small guppy, a regular sized guppy, and a snail (all freshwater) from my science teacher. On Google I've found that you are supposed to feed the guppies brine shrimp, but I only have goldfish food flakes.|||Guppies don't just eat brine shrimp. And yes you can feed them goldfish flakes, I feed mine goldfish flakes and they eat it with no problem. For the snails they eat the algae and food crumbs from the bottom so I recommend putting a couple of sinking pellets in the tank (thats what I do with my apple and mystery snails) and they eat that way. They love the shrimp pellets I put in there and so do my fish.|||The snail will have a hard time getting the goldfish food as it floats. Guppies will nibble the food slowly. Make sure there is no leftovers as goldfish food are usually too large for guppy. I have guppies and I never feed them brine shrimp, so no you are not supposed to feed them ONLY brine shrimp.

What do you mean by food flakes? I thought goldfish food were not supposed to be flakes. I don't know, but as long as your guppies like it then they will survive.|||That's okay for now but you should try to get the proper tropical fish flakes. For the snail you should get algae wafers.|||It doesn't take much effort to pop along to your pet store and buy some tropical fish food to feed them properly.|||Yes and you can feed goldfish guppy food.

Are there any good non-toxic insecticides and slug/snail killers?

I want to destroy them in a way that poses no harm to humans; my mum is paranoid about insecticides and snail pellets.|||I'd go for slug/snail killers based on Iron, as these are of no issue to wildlife, gardens, pets or humans. These are the newer type, not based on the old dangerous poisons. There's an example of one here - http://www.thegardenersshop.co.uk/ekmps/鈥?/a> Check the active ingredient and if it's anything other than Iron based, which may say 'Ferrous' (Iron) then don't buy or use it. Typical compound is Ferric phosphate.(Iron phosphate). These degrade into the ground and are beneficial chemicals.

In addition, you can protect your plants with copper tape or barriers, as they won't crawl over these due to electrical charges that they get. Otherwise, diatomaceous earth is razor like to them, and they won't again move across. http://www.slugoff.co.uk/slug-solutions/鈥?/a> from nurseries.

For insects, get hold of insecticidal soap, which kills them. A cheaper option is diluted liquid hand soap, or even dishwashing liquid - these can sometimes dry plants out though.

As you're using soaps, there is no risk to others, though beware of beneficial insects such as bees and butterflies, which will also be harmed by these.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob|||Beer!

Slugs and snails love the stuff.

Sink a glass jar into the ground near where your gastropods usually hang out.

A nice wide jar with a narrow neck so that there is an overhang.

3/4 fill it with a pleasantly alcoholic ale (the slimies don't seem to be lager drinkers for some reason). Adnam's broadside (bottled) is top tackle for this gig but any brown ale over 5% should do and the cheaper the better unless you feel sorry for them and want to give them a good send-off.

In a couple of days, your jar will be loaded with sozzled snails who have drunk too much, lost their grip and drowned. What a way to go.

Cheers.|||Beer for slugs and snails does work. I have had some success using crushed egg shells to keep them out of my garden; the edges are sharp and cut them when they try to crawl across them.

For an effective contact insecticide I use dish detergent (about 1 tablespoonful in a quart of water) and spray it directly on the bugs. It has to make direct contact to work and the plants need a good rinsing afterward to avoid leaf drop but it is highly effective.

Good luck and enjoy!|||I tend to use the beer in a container method which is very effective and also washing and drying then crushing egg shells and placing round garden and plants they really dont like that and then you find the birds will collect the slugs and snails which is enjoyable thing to watch and its also safe is you have any pets in your household. if needs must salt is also very effective.|||Beer, oddly.

A small mug, or glass, half buried in the soil, half full of beer.

The snails, and slugs, will crawl up the side of the container, and drown in the beer.

Tip. Don't drink the beer.|||Encourage the following into your garden. They all eat slugs %26amp; snails.

Hedgehogs, black birds, thrushes, frogs, toads %26amp; slow worms.|||Insecticidal soap is harmless to pets and humans. Slugs can be caught in traps so there is no need for insecticides for them.|||Salt can kill slug in no time, just put less than a pinch on it.|||Beer in a saucer will take care of most of them. Plus they will probably die happy :-)

What is the best way to get ride of snail in a fresh water fish tank?

i already did a water change and tried had a snail?|||First you could buy a harsh chemical. I think there is a product called Snail-Rid that contains Copper Sulfate, a chemical that is notorious for being risky to use around fish. Aquari-Sol is sold in many stores that sell pet fish. It will kill snails, but it is harsh, risky for other fish, and may contain copper sulfate. I can't quite remember. But I would not use it, and I would not recommend it, and it is not natural.

Another idea might be to use Aquarium Salt, NaCl, because salt will kill garden snails, and Aquarium Salt is very useful in aquariums and ponds.

One of the best way to get rid of snails is to get some Loaches. I like Clown Loaches very much. They are one of my favorite fish. But they do better in a school with six or more Clown Loaches, and so they usually need a large aquarium with at least 40 or 50 gallons of water.

Finally we come to our favorite way of reducing the snail population. Get a small glass jar like a salt shaker. Remove the top. Be sure the jar is clean. Then put a small piece of lettuce or perhaps some fish food in the jar, and fill it with aquarium water. Carefully sink it on the bottom of the aquarium. The next day it will have lots of small snails inside! remove them and repeat the process.|||You did not say if it was a large snail or if it was the tiny small ones that try to take over you tank..

If you buy a fresh water Puffer, most are green and white ,

It will eat the small snails and keep them under control.|||Try picking them out - it may take a while if you have had snails reproducing in there, but they grow fairly quickly, and if you're diligent about it, you can get them all eventually. Try to avoid chemical solutions, they can affect your fish as well.

Clown loaches eat snails, if this is a fish you want to add to your tank, get 3 or 4 of them (they're community fish, but don't do well unless they have some of their own kind).|||Rather than using chemicals, which may cause harm to other inhabitants of your tank (snail killing chemicals are mostly based on copper to which some fish, plants, and other inverts are sensitive), why not use a more natural means of control? There are a number of fish that eat these as a part of their natural diet, including loaches/botias, puffers, rams, and gouramis. Just keep in mind with these the adult size of the fish (as well as your tank size), the loaches/botias are best kept in groups, and the puffers should have a tank of their own.

Another way of getting the number at least reduced is to use a baiting method. If you put a lettuce leaf in the tank and weight it down with some gravel, The snails will climb on to it overnight to feed. Just take it out (with the snails still attached) first thing in the morning. If your fish eat too much of the lettuce, you can put it into a plastic container with a lid, weight the container with gravel, and poke a hole in the lid or side big enough for the snails to fit through, but not your fish.|||Try a snail trap instead of the snail killing medication. Just use a small plastic snap top container. Poke holes in the sides larger enough for the snail to get in but too small for your fish. Add a piece of lettuce and a little gravel from the tank to hold it down. Put that in the tank at lights out and in the morning you will be amazed how many snails are in there. Do it several days in a row and you'll get most all of them. If you have room in the tank, a clown loach is also a great snail remover.

Can the Nassarius Snail move on land, or just in the water?

My science project this year for school has to do with snails and how different surfaces affect how fast they move. At my local pet store the Nassarius Snail is very cheap, so I was planning to use those. The only thing is they're water snails and I need to make sure they'll move on dry land. Is this possible?|||They cannot move on a completely dry surface. They can move on a moist surface, even though they are not submerged in water. Also, if they are really Nassarius, they are marine snails and require salt water. If they are fresh water snails, they are not Nassarius. If you want to study movement on dry land, work with land snails.

This is about all I can think of to do. I've never heard of such a thing before.|||I wonder if you put your dress in a bag and then put it in the freezer over night. This might enable you to lift off the frozen slime rather chewing gum.

Another idea is to soak the area with white vinegar, leave to soak in and then wash with a biological powder and washing soda. Washing soda will shift axle grease from clothes, so a little squashed snail should be no problem.|||You may have to take it to a dry cleaners.

Warm and hot water id a bad idea, it can cause the stain to set it.

I think the best way to catch one is to get a plant pot, fill it with dirt (about an inch in the bottom) and then get a bigger pot and put the small pot in the larger one. There should be about 2 inches in a gap between them. Leave it in a damp spot, check everday, underneath, in between, in the pots, all around that pot. It might take up to a month but it should work. Snails love to hide in between things and in holes. You should water the dirt everyday to ensure the pot is wet, water on the pot aswell. Hope this helps.

You must have an undergravel filter. There are clear tubes that the airstones are put into to run the filter, and you're worried about your snail getting into the tube? There are tops you can buy for these that will slip over the clear tube (the air hose fits through a hole in the top) and there's a strainer where the bubbles come out so that fish and snails can't get in. As far as your snail climbing out of the tank, you shouldn't worry about that either. They may climb out but they shouldn't actually leave the tank, they should only climb out right above the water line, depending on what type of snail you have some lay eggs above the water line. If for some reason the snails does leave the tank it means something is wrong with the water and they are trying to get away.|||You can cut a circle from a plastic lid ( like from frosting or coffee) and put it around the tube, the snail wont be able to crawl around it.|||i would just get a good screen.

What do snails normally eat? Should I just pick some of the plants they've eaten before and put them in their home? Do they need water?|||oh wow im not the only person who likes to have snails as pets. i used to have 2 snails but remeber snails arent just males and females, they are both, so one snail is both male and female so they might end up making babies just to warn you, and the snails are really small when they hatch so be sure they dont run free from small gaps. snails dont need water they only need lettuce, lettuce have heaps of water in it, make sure the lettuce is fresh and leave it in their cage thingo for a couple of days because it dries up and then there isnt much water in it. keep the lettuce wet. get some of the harder parts on the lettuce like the stiffer parts and put it in coz it will stand up a bit it wouldnt just be flat on the bottom, it would make it more fun lol. try n make some nice cozy spots in the lettuce coz they like to sleep in corners. when summer comes its best to let them go free somewhere you know they will be safe because in summer it gets too hot and they could die so they need fresh soil to go nice n deep in to keep cool so winter is the best time to have snails as pets. if there are any other questions about snails you may send me an email to nicky-nix21@hotmail.com i may have just made myself a new friend coz people think im crazy to have snails as pets and to find someone like you that likes snails too, makes me feel happy lol anyway hope to hear from you and i hope my advice helps.

The best of these I think are the cornmeal (sticks to them and they don't like it), diatomaceous earth (the grains are striated and they don't cross it), tobacco and seaweed (have no idea why but snails don't like those either).

Hope that helps!|||This is not what you asked for. We have always used regular table salt. I just wanted to warn you not follow that one advice about stepping on it. They are the hardest, gooeyest and yuckiest mess to EVER get off of your shoes or whatever you use.

Can you start the nitrogen cycle with a snail?

Today I received a empty ten gallon tank set up from my sister, and want to start a small freshwater community. I already planned on adding a apple snail to the mix, but if I add it by itself will it start my nitrogen cycle? Where I live they don't sell ammonia drops.|||Actually it will work to a certain extent. Any animal living in the tank, or even plants and algae that grow and then die will feed the cycle, at least at a low level.

The tank will only ever build up a cycle to match the bioload that you put in, but once you get some level of cycle running it's much easier to build it up in stages as you add more fish.

A medium size snail probably produces the same bioload as a small fish as far as the nitrogen cycle is concerned.

Ian|||No, you need hardy fish like barbs or tetras.

You can get ammonia in most hard ware shops.

Or ask your fish shop to get some in for you.

Read link below.|||You can use fish food instead of ammonia drops.

How much would a mutant snail sell for?

Hello, I've recently found and caught a snail with kelp growing on it with some goose barnacles growing on it. I put it in my 80 gallon tank all cycled and stocked. How much do you think this mutant snail would sell for?|||Sorry to be technical, but it's not a mutant snail. The snail itself is normal. As is commonly known gooseneck barnacles will attach to anything that gets good water circulation. People with reef tanks would probably pay more for this snail than a plain one, but there's no established pricelist for commensal animals. If they're weird enough, they do sell for more, but that's up to the inidivual buyer. You sell it to a petshop who wont give you that much more, or you advertise it, and a reef collectorr may make you a decent offer. My guess is that's its worth over $10. to people into snails.-|||probably $1 or so.

I dont think many people would want a nasty looking snail in their aquarium...
