How do I care for a pet snail?

My dad usually puts snail poision out to protect our plants.. I picked up two snails and made a fairly large sized "home" for them with plants and flowers.. Like I said, there are two of them - they won't be lonely.

What do snails normally eat? Should I just pick some of the plants they've eaten before and put them in their home? Do they need water?|||I am glad that you are taking charge of these snails! Sounds like fun! Ok, so. I would recommend getting some soil to put in the home that you have made for him. They are used to this kind of stuff, and will enjoy it! Well, snails usually eat plants. they will also eat left over fruits and veggies that you have! Yes, the picked plants sound great! You can leave the food (the left over fruits and veggies), in the home for about three days. Then, remove the food and throw it away. But, you can keep the plants in the home for about a week. Then, you should throw them away too! Get some more plants, and then left over fruits and veggies. They might get stinky, so beware. you might wanna keep the snails in your garage or outside in their home, unless, your parents don't mind your room getting stinky! I would recommend getting a spray bottle (set it to "mist"). Give them distilled water. Spray them and their bedding twice a day. That way, it stays nice and moist through out the day. I would spray them down once in the morning and then once at night.

I wish you good luck with taking care of your new pets! Good luck and thanks for taking this answer in!|||thank you so much!

The plants they've eaten before would be just fine to put in there. For water you could put a wet cotton ball on a rock or a shell. GOOD LUCK!!!|||LOL SALT?

Salt would kill them.

=T|||DO NOT USE SALT it kills them!

i think they like lettuce

good luck x|||feed them your dads plants..... they like moist areas ..... I think salt will dry them out..... when you take them out for a walk on a leash dont walk too fast|||First problem is this isn't a pet snail... this is a wild snail, and without knowing what kind (there are like 70+ species in Maine alone) it would be hard to suggest specific care... but in general, you want to offer fresh water and temperatures, humidity, and light cycles similar to those of the environment they came from.

As for diet, most are herbivores so look to highly nutritious vegetables like chopped fresh collard greens and grated raw squashes %26amp; sweet potato. For a treat you can give them a little fruit like apple or banana. Some species can really benefit from access to maure.... but barring that, maybe offer a shallow dish of flake fish food.|||set it free away from your dad garden get a real pet like a hamster gerbil guiness pig dog cat bird or salt your snail|||Take them outside, away from the garden, and set them free in the grass.

To properly care for them, don't step on them.|||hahahaha snails. that is cool. everything needs water.|||[raises hand %26amp; waves it in air] Hey, garlic butter?|||get a real pet like a dog. we dont live in bikinbottom with pet snails. get a dog or a cat
