Can a put a snail in an unfiltered fish tank?

I am thinking of getting 4 goldfish and i have a tank w/o a filter, and i kno that snails clean tanks. Can i put the snail in the tank if it doesnt have a filter?

if so, what should i do to care for the snail? what do i do wiht the snail when i change the water???|||Any tank needs a filter. Also 4 common goldfish need like a 200 gallon tank. Fancy goldfish 40-50 gallons for 4.|||Without a mature filter, the ammonia produced by your goldfish will create very serious water quality issues. Great discipline and understanding of the mechanics of water quality %26amp; the Nitrogen cycle are essential prerequisites for keeping goldfish without filters. Please bear in mind that biological filtration techniques were unknown to the Chinese when they first kept fishes in bowls, but we now know much better.

These days, keeping an unfiltered aquarium or bowl is a bit like driving without wearing a seatbelt!

In any case, do not rely on a snail or indeed any other animal (including Plecostomus catfishes, or sucking loaches) to do your tank cleaning for you or to eradicate all algae. The animal will simply go about its own business (and will probably just leave meandering tracks in the algae film on the glass) as it has no idea that it has been placed into the aquarium to perform a specific task; indeed I despair when I hear of some fishkeepers complaining that they have a 'lazy' plec, etc!

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you good luck in any case.|||Not all tanks need a filter, goldfish and betta can live quite comfortably without a filter as long as the owner does the appropriate maintenance which is pretty much just changing water and if they are in a bowl cleaning the bowl. Snails will keep the glass clean but they will also take oxygen out of the water but this should be minuscule amounts and have little effect on the fish. They shouldn't need a filter either as they are generally more hardy then the fish. The one thing that can hurt them is an acidic pH, your pH should be 7.0 or very close.|||Snails wont clean your tank, a large tank which is at least 200 gallons for the fish I assume you have.

With a filter rated for a 400 gallon tank.

I tank which is actually cared for, give your fish to someone else and jump off a bridge.|||Goldfish produce a lot of waste, so you REALLY need a filter to keep him alive for long. The snail can't clean everything. Make sure you have at least 40gal for all them with twice the filteration.|||You can put a snail in aunfiltered fish tank. If you put live plants in they will send up air bubbles but you will still need a filter.
